6-Chloro-3-nitroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine is a weak acid with a pKa of 2.6. The compound has acidic properties, as indicated by its ionization constant (log K = 3.8). 6-Chloro-3-nitroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine can be prepared by reacting the corresponding amide with nitric acid and hydrogen chloride gas in dry methanol. The compound is soluble in water and methanol but insoluble in organic solvents such as ether, benzene, and chloroform. Spectrophotometric methods are used to determine the concentration of 6-chloro-3-nitroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine in solution.
