Methyl N-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)carbamate is a chemical substance that belongs to the group of pesticides. It can be used as an insecticide and acaricide for control of ticks, mites, cockroaches, ants and other pests. Methyl N-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)carbamate has been shown to activate the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in rats. This activation leads to the production of antibodies against antigenic substances in the rat's food composition and induces a T cell response to these substances. The activation of TLR4 also enhances the function of macrophages, which are needed for efficient antigen processing and presentation in humans. Methyl N-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)carbamate has been shown to have antibacterial properties in cell culture experiments with human cells. This may be due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid synthesis or carbon source utilization by bacteria.
