3,5-Dichloro-4-hydroxybenzenesulfonic acid (3,5-DCHB) is a phototransformation product of dichlorinated organic compounds. 3,5-DCHB may be formed from the photolysis of dichlorobenzenes or from the photolysis of dichloroethanes. It can be found in wastewater and has been studied as an experimental compound for its potential to act as a single electron acceptor. 3,5-DCHB has also been shown to react with singlet oxygen to form singlet oxygen radicals that are toxic to many organisms. A liquid chromatography method for analysis of 3,5-DCHB has been developed and is used to measure concentrations in water samples.
