- N1-(2-hydroxy-4-nitrophenyl)acetamide
N-(2-hydroxy-4-nitrophenyl)acetamide is a direct-acting mutagen that inhibits the synthesis of RNA and DNA. It binds to the ta100 gene, which codes for the enzyme tyrosine aminotransferase in Salmonella strains. This drug also inhibits bacterial growth by inducing mutations in their DNA. In this way, it is able to inhibit the synthesis of proteins and enzymes essential for life processes. N-(2-hydroxy-4-nitrophenyl)acetamide has been shown to be more potent than polyphosphoric acid and azides as a mutagen in bacterial strains TA98 and TA100.
