Crocetin is a natural compound that belongs to the group of coumarins. It has been shown to decrease intestinal inflammation and protect neurons from death in animal models. Crocetin also inhibits the activity of enzymes that are involved in apoptosis, such as caspases and phospholipases. Crocetin can also bind DNA through its dna binding activity and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Preliminary studies have found that crocetin may be used for the treatment of bowel disease in humans and for the prevention of cancer.
