2-Chlorodibenzo[b,f]oxepine is a reactive compound that can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of arylcoumarins. It is synthesized by the reaction of 2-chloro-1,3-dihydrobenzofuran with diazomethane in the presence of a ligand such as nitrite or fluoride. The cross coupling reaction occurs between an electron rich aromatic and an electron poor diamino. The efficiency of this reaction depends on the substitution pattern on the aromatic ring and the electron donating ability of the ligands.
