3,7-Dithia-1,9-nonanedithiol is a synthetic molecule that belongs to the class of sulfur compounds. It is a colorless liquid with a viscosity of 0.12 Pa·s at 25 °C. 3,7-Dithia-1,9-nonanedithiol has been used in the production of nanotubes through an electrochemical process by reacting with lithium metal and tetrachlorosilane. The thermal stability of 3,7-dithia-1,9-nonanedithiol has been studied using x-ray crystallography and transition temperatures have been determined by photoelectron spectroscopy. This compound can be alkylated with various nucleophiles such as methyl chloride or dimethyl sulfide. Crystallographic data have shown that 3,7-dithia-1,9-nonanedithiol can coordinate with two oxygen atoms.
