Description:
2-Imidazol-1-yl-pyridine (2IP) is a framework that has been shown to have aminomalonamide activity. 2IP was synthesized by reacting an imidazole derivative with a chloride and a ruthenium catalyst. It reacts with xanthine oxidase, an enzyme that is activated by the presence of oxygen, to generate reactive oxygen species, which are toxic to cells. 2IP has been tested as a potential inhibitor of xanthine oxidase in animals and humans and has shown promising results.
