Polyglycine is a protein that is expressed in soybeans. It has been shown to have chitosan-like properties and can be used as an alternative to chitosan for the treatment of wounds. Polyglycine has been shown to be involved in iron homeostasis and the α1 subunit of glycine receptors, which are found in tissues such as brain and muscle. This protein has also been shown to function as a model system for penicillin-binding proteins, which are vital for bacterial growth. Polyglycine is part of the glycine family and shares sequence similarity with tetracycline resistance proteins.
