Lanthanum acetate sesquihydrate is an inorganic compound that is used to produce the optical and electronic materials lanthanum oxide, lanthanum trifluoroacetate, and lanthanum fluoride. The material is often used as a dopant in the production of oxide-based semiconductors. Lanthanum acetate sesquihydrate is synthesized by reacting lanthanum metal with acetic acid. It can also be produced by reacting zirconium with trifluoroacetic acid followed by heating at high temperatures, which produces zirconium acetate.
