4-[2-(Dimethylamino)ethyl]benzene-1,2-diol hydrobromide (DMAB) is a potent and selective inhibitor of cocaine-induced chronotropic and pressor responses in rats. DMAB also inhibits the release of dopamine from rat brain nerve endings. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit the binding of cocaine to ganglionic nerve endings and bulbocapnine receptors. The drug appears to be well tolerated following oral administration in animals, as no changes in blood pressure or heart rate were observed.
