2-Amino-6-methyl-4(3H)-quinazolone is a heterocyclic compound that is used as an antifolate in the synthesis of thymidylate. It has cytotoxic properties and exhibits functionalisation reactions with chloride and deamination reactions with methyl groups. 2-Amino-6-methyl-4(3H)-quinazolone is prepared by the condensation of ethyl acetoacetate, hydroxylamine hydrochloride and tosyl chloride in a high yield, heterocycle process. This reaction is unperturbed by the presence of a methyl group or a chloroalkane substituent.
