Product Information
3-Amino-6-phenylpyrazine-2-carbonitrile (3APPC) is a trifluoroacetic acid derivative that inhibits the growth of bacteria. 3APPC has been shown to inhibit the growth of phylogenetically diverse bacteria, including those that are resistant to multiple antibiotics. It also has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on Clostridium perfringens and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium in cell culture. 3APPC does not bind to DNA or affect RNA synthesis, but it does inhibit the production of proteins necessary for cell division. The exact mechanism of action is still unclear, but it may be related to its ability to alter membrane permeability and cause leakage from cells.
