2-Iodo-3-methoxybenzoic acid is a chiral compound that belongs to the family of oxazolines. It has been shown to catalyze the stereoselective synthesis of polyvalent, enantioenriched synthons from simple starting materials. The catalytic enantioselective synthesis of these synthons is achieved in high yields and with excellent diastereocontrol. These synthons can be used as building blocks for the preparation of pharmaceutically important molecules such as β-lactams, β-amino acids, α-amino acids, and α-hydroxy carboxylic acids.
