Description:
5,7-Dichloro-1-benzofuran-2-carboxylic acid is an ethyl ester that is synthesized by reacting 5,7-dichloro-1-benzofuran with methanol and a sodium methoxide. This compound has been shown to be an inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase in the brain and causes paralysis of insects.
5,7-Dichloro-1-benzofuran-2 carboxylic acid also inhibits the production of protein by cells in culture.
