This chemical reacts with the antigen of the pathogen to produce a coloured compound. 3-Amino-2,6-dichlorobenzoic acid reacts with both bacterial and human cells, but it does not react with animal cells, so it can be used to differentiate between bacteria and fungi. 3-Amino-2,6-dichlorobenzoic acid has been shown to be reactive against Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Klebsiella aerogenes trophozoites.
