Product Information
- Acetic Acid, 2-[(5-Methyl-1,3,4-Thiadiazol-2-Yl)Thio]-
The compound 5-Methyl-[1,3,4]thiadiazol-2-ylsulfanyl)-acetic acid is an antibacterial agent that has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-negative bacteria. It binds to the chloride ion and metal ion in the bacterial cell wall, which prevents the formation of a negative charge on the cell membrane. This inhibits the transport of ions across the membrane and leads to bacterial death. 5-Methyl-[1,3,4]thiadiazol-2-ylsulfanyl)-acetic acid also has antiinflammatory properties due to its ability to bind with 7-aminocephalosporanic acid and coordinate water molecules.
