2-(Toluene-4-sulfonylamino)-benzoic acid methyl ester is a synthetic drug that inhibits the function of the ABCB1 transporter in cancer cells. It was shown to inhibit the growth of MDA-MB231 breast cancer cells, which are dependent on this transporter for their survival. 2-(Toluene-4-sulfonylamino)-benzoic acid methyl ester also has an effect on other types of cancer, such as leukemia and colon cancers, by inhibiting cell proliferation. The inhibitory effect is due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with chloride ions and carbonyl groups. This drug also has a dihedral angle that causes it to be chiral, which may be advantageous for treating cancers with multiple mutations.
