Product Information
Propane-2-sulfonohydrazide is a cholesterol acyltransferase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of fatty acids in cells and is used for the treatment of infections caused by rotaviruses. Streptomyces bacteria produce this enzyme, which was first isolated from them in the late 1950s. Acylation of cholesterol with acyl-coa is catalyzed by cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT). Propane-2-sulfonohydrazide inhibits ACAT, thereby preventing the formation of fatty acid esters. Propane-2-sulfonohydrazide also inhibits viral replication by inhibiting the viral synthetase enzyme, which is essential for viral production. This drug may have potential as an antiviral agent against HIV and influenza viruses.
