Product Information

Name:
(R)-3-Amino-4-methylpentanoic acid
Synonyms:
  • Pentanoic acid, 3-amino-4-methyl-, (3R)-
  • (R)-Homo-Beta-Valine
Description:

(R)-3-Amino-4-methylpentanoic acid is an amino acid that is found in the human body and other mammals. The (R)-enantiomer is synthesized by a racemase enzyme in the liver and kidney. This amino acid has been shown to be involved in the regulation of serum fatty acids levels and may be a marker for pernicious anemia. It can also be used to diagnose this anemia because it has been shown that serum levels of this amino acid are lower than normal when someone has pernicious anemia. (R)-3-Amino-4-methylpentanoic acid is also involved in protein synthesis, specifically s6 ribosomal protein.
