Product Information
- Quinoline, 4,7-Dibromo-
4,7-Dibromoquinoline is a nucleotide that is used in the treatment of patients with HIV. It inhibits viral replication by interfering with the function of the ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase. 4,7-Dibromoquinoline binds to RNA polymerase and blocks its ability to initiate transcription by preventing the binding of RNA to DNA templates. This drug also has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis and cell division. Aptamers are oligonucleotides that can bind to a specific target molecule or group of molecules. They have been used as therapeutics for cancer and other diseases. Antisense drugs are small molecules that bind to complementary sequences of RNA or DNA and prevent translation into proteins, leading to an accumulation of nonfunctional mRNA or DNA strands in cells. The use of 4,7-dibromoquinoline as a therapeutic agent is limited by its cytotoxicity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein
