Vericiguat is a soluble, cyclase inhibitor that is used to treat congestive heart failure. It is also prescribed for the treatment of chronic renal disease, in combination with other drugs such as angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers. Vericiguat has been shown to increase levels of natriuretic peptides and improve kidney function. The pharmacological effects of vericiguat are due to its inhibition of the activity of specific enzymes, including phosphodiesterases, adenylyl cyclases, and nitric oxide synthases. Pharmacological agents that have similar effects include sildenafil citrate (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra).
