Description

Flucloxacillin sodium is a semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic that has been used for the treatment of a number of infectious diseases. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, thus preventing the formation of an enzyme-inhibitor complex with cell wall synthesis. This prevents the biosynthesis of peptidoglycan and other cell wall components, leading to bacterial cell death. Flucloxacillin sodium has been shown to be effective against C. coli K-12 and E. coli K-12 strains, as well as S. pneumoniae, but is not active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex bacteria. The stability of flucloxacillin sodium in reaction solution was tested using human serum and found to be stable at pH 4.5 and 7 for up to 2 hours at 37°C
