Epinortrachelogenin
Synonyms:
  • (-)-Epinortrachelogenin
  • (3R,4S)-Dihydro-3-hydroxy-3,4-bis[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-2(3H)-furanone
  • 2(3H)-Furanone,dihydro-3-hydroxy-3,4-bis[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-, (3R-trans)-
Description:

Epinortrachelogenin is a synthetic molecule that is derived from the plant Thymelaea malabarica. Epinortrachelogenin has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the biosynthesis of 10-deacetylbaccatin, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of taxayuntin, an anticancer agent. This compound has also been shown to inhibit oxomatairesinol biosynthesis and oxomatairesinol-induced malate production in Taxus cuspidata, a species of coniferous tree. Epinortrachelogenin may have potential as an anticancer drug due to its ability to inhibit these two biosynthetic pathways.
