Tipelukast is a drug that blocks the action of histamine and leukotrienes by binding to the receptors for these substances. Tipelukast is used in the treatment of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria. It has been shown to be effective in reducing inflammation in a number of animal models including rat models of bladder disease, and rat models of inflammatory bowel disease. Tipelukast can be administered orally with few side effects.
