5-Bromo-2-fluoro-3-nitrotoluene is a nitrophenyl compound that has been synthesized by the reaction of 5-bromo-2,4-dinitrobenzene and 2,6-dichloro fluoro benzene. It has been shown to yield efficient peroxidase activity in the presence of hydrogen peroxide at room temperature. The microwave irradiation for this reaction provides an advantage over other methods as it does not require heating or cooling in order to maintain the reactants in solution.
Analogues of this compound have also been synthesized with substitutions on the nitro group and/or fluorine atom, which may provide more efficient peroxidase activity than 5BFNT.
