Product Information
7-Triethylsilyl-13-oxobaccatin III is a compound that yields a skeletal rearrangement. This reaction is catalyzed by the use of borane-tetrahydrofuran complex, which reacts with the carbonyl group and reduces the double bond between carbons 1 and 2. The chloroform is then removed by condensation to yield the desired product. This reaction can also be done in two steps: first, a ring system is formed by condensation of methylated pyridine with methyl trifluoroacetate, followed by a nucleophilic attack of an intramolecular hydroxide ion on the carbon alpha to the carbonyl group. The reaction can also be done using an Aldol condensation in which two molecules of acetaldehyde are condensed with an ester in the presence of potassium hydroxide.
