2-(4,5-Dichloro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)thioacetamide is a metabolite of the drug azathioprine that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of prostate cancer. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme polymerase chain reaction (PCR). 2-(4,5-Dichloro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)thioacetamide also inhibits inflammatory bowel disease that is caused by a mutation in the fatty acid synthase gene. This compound blocks the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are proinflammatory molecules. 2-(4,5-Dichloro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)thioacetamide has also been shown to have anticancer effects on pluripotent cells.
