Triapine is a drug that inhibits the activity of ribonucleotide reductase, an enzyme that is essential for DNA synthesis. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells by inhibiting the supply of nucleotides to the cell. Triapine also inhibits ribonucleotide reductase and causes DNA fragmentation, leading to cell death.
