Description:
1-(3-ethoxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-2-(methylsulfonyl)ethanone is a chiral catalyst that is used in the synthesis of apremilast, an inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4). It is also used as a lipase activator and bromoethane, 3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzonitrile, and sulfide are used as starting materials. The reaction can be chemoenzymatically synthesized with sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid. The chiral catalyst can be synthesized by the condensation of benzyl alcohol and sulfone.
