6-Bromo-3-methoxy-2-methylpyridine is an antibacterial agent that is used to treat infections caused by Burkholderia cepacia. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cultures of b. cepacia and has also been shown to be effective against Burkholderia pseudomallei, a bacterium that can cause melioidosis. 6-Bromo-3-methoxy-2-methylpyridine inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the chloride ion in the cytoplasmic membrane and blocking its transport into the cell, inhibiting the production of pyochelin, which is essential for bacterial metabolism.
