Taspoglutide is a novel insulinotropic agent that belongs to the class of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It increases the level of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) by inhibiting DPP-4, an enzyme that breaks down GLP-1. Taspoglutide is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and has shown long-term efficacy in clinical trials. Taspoglutide has been shown to have an excellent pharmacokinetic profile and does not affect glucose metabolism in healthy subjects.
