- X-beta-D-glucuronide sodium salt
Chromogenic substrate for beta-glucuronidase (GUS) yieldingblue precipitate upon cleavage. Used for identification ofbeta-glucuronidase. X-beta-D-glucuronide has beenreportedas chromogenic substrate in a number of chromogenicE. coli/ coliform culture media. About 95% of common E. colipossess beta-D-glucuronidase activity. Such chromogenicculture media are used for detection and enumeration ofE. coli in food samples such as meat, dairy products<(>,<)>shellfish and have clinical applications in the assessment ofurinary infections. It has gained international acceptance ashighly accuratetest for the presence of E. coli in drinkingwater samples. It is also used for the detection of theexpression of GUS(E. coli beta-glucuronidase) gene fusionmarker constructs in plants. The sodium salt has advantagesover the cyclohexylammonium salt as being nonelectrostatic andpossessing a naturally-occurring cation.
