3-Methyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyridine is an experimental drug that has shown to inhibit the p38 kinase. It also inhibits the synthesis of protein in cells by acting as a competitive inhibitor of ATP binding to the active site of hydrazine hydrolases. 3-Methyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyridine has been shown to be effective against a number of malignant tumors at low doses and shows potential for use in cancer therapy. The compound also binds to some other hydrophobic sites such as the triazole and oxadiazole rings found in many antibiotics and antihistamines. 3-Methyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyridine interacts with formic acid in a way similar to diazepam. This similarity may allow it to act as a formic acid
