Methyl 3-methylisoxazole-5-carboxylate is an organic compound that belongs to the aldoxime class. It is used as a reagent in organic synthesis and as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. Methyl 3-methylisoxazole-5-carboxylate can be prepared by the reaction of methyl chloroformate and 3-methylisoxazol-5-one. This compound reacts with nitrite to form hypochlorite, which can be used as a bleach or disinfectant. Methyl 3-methylisoxazole-5-carboxylate also reacts with amides, nitriles, and oxides to give tertiary amines and oximes respectively. The reaction system can be further modified by bromination or oxidation to give bromomethyl or methyl isoxazolines respectively.
