Description:

(E)-1-Phenyl-1-butene is an industrial chemical that is used in the production of other chemicals. It has been found to be a useful catalyst for asymmetric synthesis, with high activity and selectivity. (E)-1-Phenyl-1-butene also reacts with malic acid to produce acetaldehyde and carbon dioxide, which may be used as the raw material for the manufacture of other chemicals. The reaction proceeds through the oxidation of (E)-1-phenyl-1-butene by p450 isozymes, which are cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver. These enzymes activate (E)-1-phenyl-1-butene by oxidizing it to form a reactive intermediate, which then reacts with malic acid. The product of this reaction is acetaldehyde and carbon dioxide.
