Trimethylolpropane phosphate (TMP) is a cytosolic Ca2+-mobilizing agent that is metabolized to trimethylolpropane. It has been shown to have physiological activity on basic fibroblast cells and gamma-aminobutyric acid levels in the presence of transcription-polymerase chain reaction. TMP also increases cell membrane hyperpolarization, which leads to a decrease in intracellular Ca2+ concentration. This compound is used as a model system for the study of growth factors and cyclopyrrolones, which are compounds that inhibit fatty acid synthesis. TMP can be synthesized from trimethylolpropane and phosphite, and it contains a hydroxyl group on its fatty acid side chain.
