2,3,4,5,6-Pentachloro-benzoic acid is an organic compound that belongs to the class of chlorinated benzoic acids. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of HIV infection in cell culture by binding to RNA and inhibiting protein synthesis. 2,3,4,5,6-Pentachloro-benzoic acid has also been shown to bind with high affinity to chloride channels on the surface of cells and inhibit channel opening. The polymerization of 2,3,4,5,6-pentachlorobenzoic acid is initiated by cationic polymerization and can be used as a polymerization initiator for polyvinyl chloride or other acrylics. This substance is not found naturally in plants but can be found in chloroplasts as a result of its production by microorganisms such as Pseudomonas putida and Alcaligenes faecalis.
