9,9'-Bianthracene is a molecule that emits light when irradiated with light of a specific wavelength. It has been shown to undergo carbonyl reduction in an ultrafast process and can be used as a probe for studying the dynamics of molecules in nonpolar solvents. This molecule has also been extensively studied by fluorescence spectroscopy, photophysics, and fluorescence analysis. 9,9'-Bianthracene is most commonly used as a fluorescent dye in the visible part of the spectrum. Hydrochloric acid causes an increase in viscosity and decreases the fluorescence lifetime of 9,9'-bianthracene.
