Bis(2-chloroethyl) phosphonate is a chemical that is used as a solvent and an alkylating agent. It can be used in the production of polyester resins, synthetic rubber, and lubricants. This chemical reacts with primary amines to produce chloramines (R-NH2Cl). Bis(2-chloroethyl) phosphonate hydrolyzes in the presence of water or acid, producing hydrogen chloride gas. It also reacts with metal ions such as aluminum, copper, and iron to form metal phosphates. In addition, this chemical can react with aziridines to produce divinylbenzene and diluent.
