Description:
1,3-Diphenylpropane is a metabolite of tyrosinase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the first step in the synthesis of melanin. 1,3-Diphenylpropane is found to be an inhibitor of inflammatory genes such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX). It also inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) and interleukin 1 beta (IL1β). The anti-inflammatory potency of 1,3-diphenylpropane has been shown in animal studies.
