Bucetin is a small molecule drug that has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. Bucetin is an analog of theophylline with an additional hydroxyl group that is thought to confer its pharmacological effects. Bucetin works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase (PDE), which breaks down the signaling molecule cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). PDE inhibition leads to increased cAMP levels in cells, which can lead to relief from pain, fever reduction, and reduced inflammation. Bucetin also has been shown to inhibit carcinogenesis in animal studies.
Bucetin inhibits the production of nitric oxide (NO) by binding to the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS). This inhibition leads to decreased expression of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines by immune cells such as macrophages and neutrophils. Bucetin also inhibits prostag
