Isomeranzin is a natural compound that is extracted from the fruit of the tree, Terminalia arjuna. Isomeranzin has been shown to inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α. It also inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells and induces apoptosis by binding to DNA. This compound also has anti-viral properties against herpes simplex virus (HSV). Isomeranzin may be used as an anti-inflammatory agent or for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and atherosclerosis. The chemical structure of isomeranzin consists of epoxides and coumarins.
