Cinobufotalin is a natural compound that has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells. It has been found to have an IC50 value of 4.7 nM in cell-free assays and can induce apoptosis by inhibiting the Bcl-2 protein, which prevents the release of cytochrome C from mitochondria, leading to mitochondrial membrane depolarization and activation of caspase 3. Cinobufotalin also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expression.
