Phenyltin trichloride is an organometallic compound that can be used as a reactive and antimicrobial agent. It reacts with water vapor to form hydrogen bonds and has been shown to be effective against bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus. Phenyltin trichloride has also been shown to inhibit the activity of proteases, which are enzymes that break down proteins in living organisms. This chemical is not active against halides or carbonyl groups.
