1-Isopropenyl-3-methylbenzene is a compound that has been used in the preparation of pharmaceutical preparations. It is used as a solvent in ointments and creams, as well as in perfumes, soaps and other cosmetics. 1-Isopropenyl-3-methylbenzene has been shown to be effective against microsporum and dermatophytes, although not against t. rubrum or c. camaldulensis. The reaction time for 1-isopropenyl-3-methylbenzene with microsporum is 48 hours at room temperature (20°C), but it can take up to 72 hours at higher temperatures (25°C). The linear polymer formed from 1-isopropenyl-3-methylbenzene does not dissolve in water, but it can be dissolved by organic solvents such as acetone or ethanol.
