Diethyl (4-methoxybenzyl)phosphonate is a synthetic compound that has potent anti-cancer properties. This agent is an analog of resveratrol, which is found in nature and has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. Diethyl (4-methoxybenzyl)phosphonate inhibits the growth of cancer cells by interfering with the production of the RNA polymerase required for protein synthesis. It also causes cell death by triggering apoptosis, or programmed cell death, through interference with the mitochondria’s ability to produce ATP. Diethyl (4-methoxybenzyl)phosphonate can also cause DNA damage and inhibit tumor growth by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis, or formation of new blood vessels.
