Bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate is a chemiluminescence reagent for the determination of fluorescent compounds. It is used in chemiluminescence analysis of pharmaceutical preparations and human serum. Bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate reacts with nucleophilic components in the sample to produce light emission. The amount of light emission is proportional to the concentration of the analyte and can be measured using a photometer or fluorometer. The reaction solution contains bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)oxalate and a substrate such as acetaldehyde or phenol. When the substrate reacts with bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)oxalate it produces an excited state that decays by emitting light in a chemiluminescent reaction. The intensity of light emission depends on the concentration of the analyte (i.e., substrate
