Description

Chlorotris(2-methyl-2-phenylpropyl)stannane is an organotin compound that contains a chloromethyl group. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet smell, soluble in organic solvents, but insoluble in water. Chlorotris(2-methyl-2-phenylpropyl)stannane can be used as a diluent for anions, such as chloride. Its bond cleavage may be induced by magnesium in the presence of hydrochloric acid and halides. This chemical has been shown to have high yield and may be used as pesticide or hydrocarbon additive. The phenyl group on the molecule allows it to bind to hydrocarbons, which makes it useful for removing tar from petroleum products.
