3-Cyanopropylmethyldichlorosilane is a molecule that can stabilize electrons in the hydroxyl group. It has been shown that this compound can be used as an acceptor of electrons with a lyophilic nature. 3-Cyanopropylmethyldichlorosilane is luminescent and when exposed to ultraviolet light, it emits light in the blue spectrum. This chemical is usually used as a section for electron microscopy of bilayers. 3-Cyanopropylmethyldichlorosilane is also used to study biomimetic salinity by substituting chloride ions with sodium ions.
